Curious why your data-driven decision making isn't yielding the inner sustainability and outer impact your organization desires?
The Limits of Traditional
Monitoring, Evaluation, & Learning (MEL) |
MEL systems tend to rely heavily on a linear, quantitative approach. They often have a high level of complexity, and staff struggle to find the data collection meaningful in their day-to-day lives.
When qualitative data is utilized within industry standard MEL systems, it typically is to inspire donors and/or show the difference of an intervention in an individual or community's life when quantitative metrics fail to do so. |
The solution isn't to throw out
a traditional MEL approach.
It's to put that approach's data
in conversation with the insights
from a relational and qualitative approach.

The Benefits of Incorporating a Relational and Qualitative
Approach to MEL |
A relational and qualitative approach to MEL systematically gathers data points that generally are not included in traditional approaches. By looking at beneficiaries, program staff, and program structure with a mind towards improvement, insights surface that once applied help uproot core problems in program design and implementation.
As a result, data quality improves, and data becomes more useful and meaningful to those implementing programs, as well as for other stakeholders. These enhancements shift inner sustainability within an organization and outer impact. |
"Tara is intelligent, responsible, and ethical. Her spiritual training is an asset to all tasks she performs. She is caring and committed. She has the unique ability to get to know people, listen closely to what they say and don’t say, and provide key insights that are useful to project management. It was a joy working with her."

"I worked with Tara when I was director of a children's project in Kenya.
Tara always was very professional in her approach and very knowledgeable
about community-led development. During one of our annual staff retreats,
she facilitated a session on "Project Accountability." By getting to know staff's
world view and values, in addition to the ins and outs of the project, Tara made
the topic accessible, specific to their roles within the project, and impactful.
Staff had never considered themselves accountable to the beneficiaries,
for example, or that they had positions of power and prominence within
the community. Staff emerged from that session with a new way
of seeing themselves, the project, and the community."
